THE HANDHELD GAMING BOOM
Walk any gaming event floor right now and you'll see it everywhere: a new wave of handheld consoles, each one promising console-grade play in a device you can carry. It's a real trend, and a fair response to a real demand. People want serious gameplay without being tethered to a desk.
We agree with the demand. We disagree with the answer.
ANOTHER DEVICE ISN'T THE FIX
A handheld is still one more thing to charge, carry, and eventually leave at home. It's a good product solving half the problem. The other half is the device already in every player's pocket: their phone. It's more powerful than most people realize, and it's the one screen nobody forgets to bring.
Koyozo isn't trying to out-handheld the handhelds. We're building the layer that turns the phone someone already owns into the serious gaming device it's capable of being. Not a new screen to buy. A real controller, software that respects the player, and a community that recognizes them, all built around hardware they already carry every single day.
WHY THIS MATTERS MORE THAN THE SPEC SHEET?
Every handheld launch at IGDC 2025 led with specs: processor speed, battery life, screen resolution. Understandable, but it misses the actual problem. Hardware makers focus on specs because specs are easy to market. Nobody in that conversation is asking what it feels like to actually play, and whether the experience earns the player's fifteen free minutes between meetings.
We care more about the experience than the spec sheet. A controller that fits any phone, connects instantly, and disappears into the moment of play matters more than another number on a box.
BETTING ON THE DEVICE PEOPLE ALREADY HAVE
The market will keep launching new handhelds, and some of them will be genuinely good. We're building something different: an ecosystem that meets players where they already are, on the phone in their pocket, without asking them to buy, carry, or charge one more thing.
Anything, with anyone, from anywhere. Your phone is enough.
